PHILIPPIANS: Be Content

PHILIPPIANS: Be Content

Presents can satisfy us for a short time (days, months or maybe even a few years) but Jesus can give us a deep satisfaction that lasts for eternity! Tune into this episode to hear about Paul's life and how he achieved this contentment.

Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode:

Bible Passage: Philippians 4:4

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything.”

Bible Passage: Hebrews 13:5

Don't fall in love with money. Be satisfied with what you have.

Bible Passage: 1 Timothy 6:7-8

We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won’t take anything with us when we leave. So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes.

Bible Passage: Ecclesiastes 6:9

It's better to enjoy what we have than to always want something else, because that makes no more sense than chasing the wind.

Bible Passage: 2 Corinthians 11:23-28

I have worked harder and have been put in jail more times. I have been beaten with whips more and have been in danger of death more often.

Five times my own people gave me 39 lashes with a whip. Three times the Romans beat me with a big stick, and once my enemies stoned me. I have been shipwrecked three times, and I even had to spend a night and a day in the sea. During my many travels, I have been in danger from rivers, robbers, my own people, and foreigners. My life has been in danger in cities, in deserts, at sea, and with people who only pretended to be the Lord's followers.

I have worked and struggled and spent many sleepless nights. I have gone hungry and thirsty and often had nothing to eat. I have been cold from not having enough clothes to keep me warm. Besides everything else, each day I am burdened down, worrying about all the churches.

Bible Passage: Philippians 4:11-13

I am not complaining about having too little. I have learned to be satisfied with whatever I have. I know what it is to be poor or to have plenty, and I have lived under all kinds of conditions. I know what it means to be full or to be hungry, to have too much or too little. Christ gives me the strength to face anything.

Today's Questions:

  • Imagine you were Paul and put in jail. How would you feel? Do you think you might sing praises in the cell, or do you think you might do something else?

  • What do you think you need to do in order to feel complete peaceful happiness?
