The Parable of The Weeds

The Parable of The Weeds

Today’s parable is Parable of the Weeds. It is about the end times. The end of the earth. Judgement Day.

Have you ever watched any movies about the end of the world?

I have just read Land of Stories, where the whole world was in jeopardy. There are heaps of movies like that.

God said that he is going to destroy this earth. It is part of his plan. It is not going to last forever.

I haven’t spoken about this much at The Word On The Street.

It isn’t a lovely, fun day that we tend to chat with young people about. It is a scary day, its a worrying day. But it doesn’t have to be a scary day for everybody.

Many Christians throughout history, and even today, love to talk about this. They talk about it because they scare people into becoming Christians.

It is my prayer that I don’t scare anyone this episode, but just speak the truth in love, like the apostle Paul did.

I will tell you the facts, I will read you passages from the bible and I will help you understand more about what is going to happen at the end of the earth.

For further listening, if you want to know more about the end of the earth and about the evil one, Satan, I do have a couple of episodes that you can listen to whenever you like.

We know about the future because God has told prophets to tell us what is going to happen. There is a fair bit that is ambiguous and we aren’t exactly sure on, but that doesn’t mean we should be ignorant.

What do you think?

WHO AM I?

  • I am one of Jesus 12 disciples

  • My brother James was also Jesus’ disciple until he was killed for following Jesus

  • I am the only disciple that didn’t get killed for following Jesus

  • I lived in prison for following Jesus until I died

  • In prison God showed me what is going to happen in the end times through visions

  • I wrote all the visions down in a book that is the last book in the Bible, called Revelation

  • I also wrote one of the Gospels and it is named after me

  • I called myself “the disciple Jesus loved” in my Gospel

  • WHO AM I? I am John the apostle

Bible Passage - Revelation 20:12-15

“And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Story Time!

Bible Passage - Matthew 13:24-30

“Jesus then told them this story:

The kingdom of heaven is like what happened when a farmer scattered good seed in a field. But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and scattered weed seeds in the field and then left.

When the plants came up and began to ripen, the farmer’s servants could see the weeds. The servants came and asked, “Sir, didn’t you scatter good seed in your field? Where did these weeds come from?”

“An enemy did this,” he replied.

His servants then asked, “Do you want us to go out and pull up the weeds?”

“No!” he answered. “You might also pull up the wheat. Leave the weeds alone until harvest time. Then I’ll tell my workers to gather the weeds and tie them up and burn them. But I’ll have them store the wheat in my barn.”

Matthew 13:36-43

After Jesus left the crowd and went inside, his disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the story about the weeds in the wheat field.”

Jesus answered:

The one who scattered the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seeds are the people who belong to the kingdom. The weed seeds are those who belong to the evil one,and the one who scattered them is the devil. The harvest is the end of time, and angels are the ones who bring in the harvest.

Weeds are gathered and burned. That’s how it will be at the end of time. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everyone who does wrong or causes others to sin. Then he will throw them into a flaming furnace, where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain. But everyone who has done right will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. If you have ears, pay attention!”

Judgement Day is the name of the day that John talks about in Revelation, when all of the people who ever lived on earth with gather together and be sorted, like weeds and wheat. There is another parable coming up that talks about this sorting too!

What is going to happen to those whom the angels deem to be weeds?

What is going to happen to those whom the angels deem to be wheat?

Question Time!

  • What is the difference between God’s wheat and Satan’s weeds?

  • Is there anything that scares you in today’s episode?

  • When you hear this parable do you feel motivated to do anything in particular?

I know when I hear this parable I am reminded of all the people I know who are weeds and I want to convince them to follow Jesus so they can shine like the sun in God’s Kingdom.

I also want to say thank you to God for saving me.

Next episode we will look at Judgement Day a little more when we dive into the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats.
